The Berlin-based company Panthea has produced subtitles for numerous plays streamed via video conference. This has allowed deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences all around the world to enjoy productions performed live. The Schaubühne has attracted an average of 6,000 viewers per livestream, with 37,000 for Hamlet alone. At the Maxim Gorki Theater, up to 43% of viewers have now used English subtitles. Panthea’s subtitles have therefore significantly expanded the reach and accessibility of digital theatre.
