Berlin, the capital of surtitling – The Schaubühne as a pioneer
In the early 2000s, the Schaubühne began offering foreign-language surtitles in English and French for its Berlin repertoire, thereby opening up to a wider audience. Our collaboration has now lasted for over 20 years and has gradually strengthened over time.
Mobile LED surtitling system, perfect for international touring
As one of the most widely touring ensemble theatres in Europe—and indeed, in the world—the Schaubühne Berlin recognized early on the importance of surtitling. For its tours, as well as for flexible use in its Berlin venue, the theatre chose our mobile LED surtitling system [SUPERTITLES OUT OF THE BOX], ensuring it is always fully equipped with its own technology, even far from Berlin. The Schaubühne also insists on having its own surtitlers accompany every tour, to guarantee perfect technical and, above all, rhythmic integration of the surtitles. We fully support this approach; surtitling is a profession in its own right and should be treated on an equal footing with sound, lighting, or video. It is a pioneering effort we are proud to acknowledge here!
Mobile and individually customizable surtitles with panthea.live
For about five years now, selected productions in the Schaubühne’s Berlin repertoire have also offered so-called “mobile surtitles” via our panthea.live system. This allows audience members to choose their surtitling language or access versions adapted for Deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences, either on provided devices or on their own smartphones.
The F.I.N.D. Festival
It started out as a small festival for International New Drama and has now become one of the most important meeting points for young, dynamic, and established theatre-makers from around the world. This year, the F.I.N.D. Festival will take place from April 16 to 26, 2026, and it is both an honour and a great joy for us to be closely involved in the festival and the many translations it entails. So closely, in fact, that during the festival we practically move our office to the Schaubühne café, working around the clock to do our part in making it a success. Do come by—you won’t regret it!
