Officine Papage

From an artistic project emerged an innovative collaboration, blending surtitling, accessibility, and the scenographic use of smart glasses.

A Partnership Built Around a Performance with Unique Constraints

Panthea and Officine Papage first crossed paths in 2022, during a call for projects supported by the Links Foundation, dedicated to technological innovation. The company was seeking a surtitling solution for an international tour of a production entitled Rebecca, performed entirely in darkness. Our smart glasses, unique in their ability to avoid any light interference, quickly proved to be the ideal solution.
Fascinated by this tool, Officine Papage’s artistic team carried out numerous experiments, including integrating videos projected directly into the glasses. In 2026, this partnership will develop even further with the addition of an outdoor LED screen from our Supertitles Out Of the Box product series.

A Company Committed to Creation and Accessibility

Founded in Tuscany in 2005, Officine Papage is a theatre company and accessibility advocate, combining spoken theatre, physical theatre, and dance. It places performers, listening, and seeing at the heart of its approach, while using technology to make culture accessible—particularly for deaf audiences. The company also runs renowned festivals such as the Geothermal Hills Festival and the Nuove Terre Festival, which bring together performances, landscapes, and local communities in Tuscany and Liguria.
The play La strana storia della signora Frola e del signor Ponza suo genero is currently being performed in Lisbon with a highly specific surtitling system, developed progressively during rehearsals. More than a simple translation, it creates a new form of dramaturgy through keywords and summaries, allowing audiences to follow the performance fully without focusing solely on the surtitles.
