When surtitles bridge worlds

Panthea is supporting more than 20 productions at the Theater der Welt Festival in Chemnitz, Germany. We’re proud to have contributed our linguistic and technical expertise in surtitling to one of the world’s leading international performing arts festivals.

About the festival and our contribution

The Theater der Welt Festival takes place every three years in a different German city. This year, it will run from 18 June to 5 July in Chemnitz. An international team of performing arts programmers has selected 33 productions from around the world. The languages in this roster are as diverse as the festival itself, ranging from Mandarin, Arabic, and Persian to Portuguese, Hindi, Korean, and many others.
Coordinating and delivering the translations and surtitles for this packed programme is a complex and exciting challenge. For the first time this year, the festival has made a systematic commitment to providing surtitles in both German and English. This will allow international artists to attend and enjoy each other’s productions, fostering cross-cultural and linguistic exchange.
In parallel, Panthea’s teams have been working around the clock to prepare LED screens and surtitling technology that will guarantee the best possible experience for the festival’s audiences. We have also produced translations for a range of supporting materials, including programmes and accompanying publications.

panthea.live also in attendance at the festival

Our panthea.live system will also be used during several productions at the festival. German surtitles will be displayed on LED screens, while English surtitles will be available directly on audience members’ smartphones via the panthea.live Go option.
