Widening live performance accessibility with the NT Gent

02/03/2020

Here are our latest (exciting!) developments in terms of live performance accessibility.

We have been working very hard with the exceptional team of the NTGent in Belgium in order to offer our very first globally accessible performance.

On March 4th and 5th, audience members with and without visual or hearing impairments will have the opportunity to attend a performance of “Compassie”, a play directed by Milo Rau. They will all be able to understand the play by choosing the medium that best fits their needs from the following list :
· pre-recorded audio description
· pre-recorded sign language videos
· surtitles in foreign languages
· closed captions in French for the deaf and hard-of-hearing

Through our innovation, we are now able to offer all these services simultaneously! Based on this pilot project, we will continue to develop the concept so that each performance can be accessible to a maximum number of spectators, beyond language barriers and disabilities, without increasing the cost of operating the surtitles.
Don’t hesitate to contact us for more information or if you are interested in working on a similar project in your own venue !

Our surtitling smartglasses for the hearing impaired available at the Théâtre Édouard VII

24.01.2020

In partnership with the Théâtre Édouard VII and La Fondation pour l’Audition, we are currently providing smartglasses at no cost for audience members with hearing impairments who attends a performance of “Frou-frou les Bains”. We simply ask for the users’ feedback afterward in order to carry out a report on audience accessibility for the deaf and hearing impaired.

All you need to do is purchase a ticket for the show “Frou-frou les Bains”. After choosing your seat, you will be able to select the number of smartglasses you will need.

The smartglasses can be programmed to display surtitles in French, English and closed captions in French only.

The surtitling services offered through our smartglasses are also available for international audience members by purchasing a ticket here : https://www.theatreedouard7.com/shows/frou-frou-les-bains/

We look forward to welcoming you there and to having you try our innovative smartglasses
